Connect Buying Buddy directly to Follow Up Boss. Enter your Follow Up Boss API key once, choose what you want to send, and your new leads and their activity flow into Follow Up Boss automatically - new contacts are created, and the right events can start your Follow Up Boss action plans.
This guide covers: Connecting Buying Buddy to Follow Up Boss and choosing what gets sent. You will need your Follow Up Boss API key, which you enter one time.
How it works
Once connected, Buying Buddy sends your leads and their activity straight into Follow Up Boss. A new lead is created as a person in Follow Up Boss (or matched to one who already exists), and the events you turn on are recorded against that person as they happen. Some events can start your Follow Up Boss action plans; others are simply logged as activity on the contact. You stay in control of exactly what is sent, and you can change it or disconnect at any time.
Before you start
- An active Buying Buddy account.
- An active Follow Up Boss account and your Follow Up Boss API key.
Where is my Follow Up Boss API key? In Follow Up Boss, go to Admin > API and choose Create API Key. Name it "Buying Buddy", then copy the key straight away - Follow Up Boss only shows the last four digits afterward, and the key cannot be retrieved later. If you cannot create a key, your account may have the API Key Restriction turned on; an account admin will need to create the key for you or lift the restriction.
Step-by-step setup
Step 1: Open the Follow Up Boss integration
- In Buying Buddy, go to .
- Find Follow Up Boss and open it.
Step 2: Connect your account
- On the Connect your Follow Up Boss account step, paste your Follow Up Boss API key.
- Choose the first activity you want to send, and confirm you understand that Follow Up Boss may charge for the data it receives.
- Click Connect.
Step 3: Choose what to send
Once connected, turn on the activity you want Buying Buddy to send to Follow Up Boss. Turn on only what you need - you can adjust these at any time. Some events can start a Follow Up Boss action plan, and others are recorded as activity on the contact without starting one. This distinction matters if you rely on action plans to follow up automatically.
Can start a Follow Up Boss action plan
- A new lead registers
- A lead submits a form
- A lead requests to view a property
- A lead requests more information
- A lead asks to be contacted
- A lead sends a property to a friend
Recorded as activity on the contact (does not start an action plan)
- A lead signs in to your website
- A lead saves a search
- A lead saves a property
- A lead views the same property three times
Tip: Your Buying Buddy leads arrive in Follow Up Boss with a source of Buying Buddy, so you can build Follow Up Boss action plans and automations that respond only to these leads.
Step 4: You are connected
That is it. From now on, the activity you turned on is sent to Follow Up Boss automatically as it happens. You can send a test from each activity to confirm it arrives.
Done. Your Buying Buddy leads and activity now flow into Follow Up Boss.
Good to know
- Which leads are sent: this follows your Buying Buddy account role. Single users send all their leads; team members send the leads assigned to them; admins send all account leads.
- Set it up as the right agent: each connection belongs to one agent. If you are setting this up on another agent's behalf, sign in as that agent first - otherwise the connection is created under the wrong person and will not receive their leads.
- No duplicates: Follow Up Boss matches on email and phone, so an existing contact is updated rather than duplicated.
- Action plans vs activity: only the events in the first list above can start a Follow Up Boss action plan. The others build history on the contact without starting a plan.
- Follow Up Boss charges: Follow Up Boss may bill for the activity it receives or for agent seats. Any such charges are between you and Follow Up Boss.
- Disconnect any time: disconnecting stops all sending to Follow Up Boss. Contacts already in Follow Up Boss are not affected.
